This year we have made the decision as a 7th and 8th grade math department to implement Standards Based Grading (SBG) for a significant portion of students' grades. I have included some documents below that explain the process in detail. The short of it is this: grades should be representative of what the student knows. SBG allows for the grade to be a direct reflection of that knowledge. It empowers students to take ownership of their learning and know exactly what they need to work on academically, and what specific steps they can take to change their grade.
